Polyurethane Foam Packaging Systems Protect Against Shock, Vibration, and Collision

These foams are soft, flexible, attractive, conformable, non-corrosive, odorless, non-abrasive, and resistant to climate changes.

Polyurethane Foam

MIL-P-26514E Type 1, Class II is an open cell, low-cost material with predictable performance characteristics in a temperature range of -40℉ to 250℉. It is recommended for the protection of very delicate and extremely fragile instrumentation, as well as some general packaging needs.

Articles that are relatively light in weight and only capable of absorbing shocks in the lower G-factor range of 15-25 Gs are prime candidates for packaging in polyurethane foam.

Polyurethane foam packaging inserts can be straight cut, die-cut, contoured with hot wires, or custom molded to conform to the most complex configuration.

Our polyurethane foam is available in two types:

  • Polyether Urethane Foam: An all-purpose, low-cost, highly resilient padding foam used mainly in furniture. Also used in packaging lightweight and sensitive electronic instruments for sound dampening.
  • Polyester Urethane Foam: Comes in various colors for decorative or general packaging. Its higher density makes it ideal for protective cushioning of heavier articles. Versatile and easily fabricated.

Kino’s Convoluted Polyurethane Foam

This foam is ideal for cushioning a variety of large, small, and odd-shaped objects in a single package. Ridges hug the items, preventing movement. Unusually light in weight, and flexible enough to wrap around an object if desired. This adaptability to different shapes and sizes makes it possible for convoluted foam packaging systems to accommodate all the items in a product line in a relatively small number of standard shipping containers.

Use FAST PACKS — a combination of corrugated and foam — for fast packing and safe shipping of fragile items. Our foam sheets include:

Size Description Style Item No.
1x48x96 EPS Styrofoam Sheet Rigid PS 148
2x48x96 EPS Styrofoam Sheet Rigid PS 248
1x24x72 Urethane Foam Rubber Soft PS 124
2x24x72 Urethane Foam Rubber Soft PS 224

Expanded Polyurethane Foam

Expanded polyurethane foam consists of tiny closed air cells which absorb impact shocks while holding the packaged product in the position. It is available in a wide range of densities to suit your needs. Typical shapes before fabricating include planks, sheets, rounds, tubing, and ovals. Consider using polyurethane foam if:

  • Your product weighs 10 lbs. or more
  • Your product requires a high level of protection
  • Your product’s fragility level is between 15 and 100 Gs

Protection of high-value products requires a material that will prevent or minimize the effects of physical abuse, corrosion, temperature extremes, chemical attack, aging, and other adverse conditions during shipping, handling, or storage. Closed cell structure resists water pickup and moisture transmission.

Our polyethylene foam packaging inserts are the perfect solution! Polyethylene foam is:

  • Resilient, durable, tough, and flexible
  • Lightweight — saves handling and shipping costs
  • Can be fabricated into irregular contours
  • Attractive in appearance
  • Provides a safeguard against shock and vibration
  • Moisture-resistant
